Plasmon-based targeted Hypertermia

Plasmonics for Biology and NanoMedicine

Project description

Exploiting the unique capability of plasmonic nanoparticles to generate heat on the nanometer scale, we study the use of functionalized gold nanoparticles as efficient photothermal agents for specific ablation of cancer tissues upon laser illumination. The technology is currently tested on animal models with special emphasis on developing the optimum physical and biochemical conditions to maximize the efficacy of the treatment.
