Antimicrobial transparent surfaces

Ultra-sensitive bio-sensing and bio-nanodevices

Project description

We are investigating new optical surfaces which are capable to repel and eliminate micro-organisms. More specifically we make use of recent nano-structuring techniques and ultrathin materials like polymeric self-assembly mono-layers and graphene to confer new wetting, electrical and chemical properties to the surface and change dramatically its interaction with viruses and bacteria.

The research has great potential for touch panel displays and hospitals fenestration, where transfer of micro-organisms between different individuals has to be avoided.
